Jule Vera Share New Song ‘Something Good’ with Debut Album ‘Waiting On The Sun’ out 16th June on Weekday Records
Opelika, Alabama doesn’t exactly scream “birthplace of the next great pop band,” but it just might be. Weekday Records, a joint venture label with Sony RAL, is excited to announce the debut album from Opelika’s Jule Vera, Waiting On The Sun, out June 16, 2017. Billboard today shared a new song from the album, titled “Something Good” and raved about the single, saying “There’s an air of ’60s Motown and classic Broadway musicals to “Something Good,” but the song’s giddy piano licks and bass groove are so winsome and familiar, the whole thing’s tough to place in any particular setting. Simply put, it’s a pop song, in a very classic sense.”

Bio:
With a band from Alabama, a listener might expect to hear the trademark riffs and harmonies well established in country music. However, instead of traditional Southern influences, pop quintet Jule Vera takes more inspiration from their experiences and an observational analysis of the world in which they live. The group formed organically in 2010, when guitarist/keyboardist Jake Roland and bassist Will Stacey decided to start a band as high school students. It wasn’t long before the duo transitioned into a three-piece upon meeting their talented vocalist and frontwoman, Ansley Newman at a local garage band camp, thus forming Jule Vera in its current iteration in 2013. From there, the trio continued to grow, ultimately turning into a 5-piece pop band with the addition of guitarist Chase Haws and drummer Kyle Horvath. The newfound quintet quickly began writing nearly non-stop, releasing their first EP Friendly Enemies in 2015 and following it up with nationwide tours such as the Vans Warped Tour, all before hitting twenty years old.
The result of these experiences is Waiting For The Sun, a collection of 10 songs about love and relationships, but also about finding your passion and the means of getting there. Recorded from October 2016 to January 2017 in Brooklyn, NY, the songs developed quickly and naturally, with a few exceptions that saw the band struggling to capture an essence into one song. They focused on making the lyrics and music as personal and real as possible. “It just depends on the meaning of the song, what you want people to take from it, and what your intention was,” says Newman.
With Waiting For The Sun, Jule Vera veered from their comfort zone and began experimenting with their developing sound. They played with guitar tones and percussive measures to create a unique sound amongst their hybrid of rock and pop. “On one of the songs, we put this part where Kyle, our drummer, played the strings on the guitar with sticks while Jake, one of our guitarists, played the chords. It just created a completely one of a kind rhythm and sound,” says Newman. This approach to music yielded a record with incredibly diverse sonics throughout, sounding almost like a cross between Paramore and Taylor Swift, with the band also taking large influences from the likes of Queen and Michael Jackson. “We all love music from such different genres, so we are able to pull inspiration from all different types of music.”
Waiting For The Sun will be released on June 16, 2017 on Weekday Records/Sony RAL. Jule Vera will spend the summer traveling across the nation headlining the Vans Warped Tour.
