DMA’S have released the video for the single DO I NEED YOU NOW? out on 29 June through Infectious Music. The video was directed by Jake Jelicich [Dua Lipa, Blossoms] in London. Jake was recently presented with both Gold and Silver for his work with Jarryd James in the Australian Cinematographer Society QLD Awards.
DO I NEED YOU NOW? demonstrates DMA’S evolution with Tommy O’Dell’s signature sincere melody enveloped by a Depeche Mode-esque grandness that is complemented by this stark yet beautiful video. “We really liked Jake’s previous videos,” say the band, “and we wanted to give him full creative control for Do I Need You Now? He captured the mood of the song perfectly, and it was nice to just stand still for once.”
The second DMA’S album, FOR NOW, was released in April and charted in the official UK album chart at #13 and in the independent album chart at #2, a significant achievement for the Sydney trio.
DMA’S are set to return to the UK for further dates this summer, including festival slots at Reading and Leeds, Summer Sessions in Glasgow, and Finsbury Park supporting Liam Gallagher. Full dates as follows:

DMA’S made a huge impression with their debut album, HILLS END, in 2016, which went Gold in their Australia homeland and became a word-of-mouth success in the UK and throughout Europe. The band have raised their game even further with the follow up, FOR NOW. Produced by the band alongside KIM MOYES of The Presets, FOR NOW is a gloriously uplifting album of beautifully honed, passionately emotive songs. Demonstrating that DMA’S are brimming with confidence, its hooks and rich melodies make this a timeless album. The purity and command of song craft is also vividly on display throughout the album, with beautiful ballads such as IN THE AIR showcasing sweeping production and daydream-inducing lyrics that shine a light on the band’s much-loved talent for song writing.
While the new album echoes the strident, hook-heavy Britpop and Manchester influences of the band’s debut, it’s equally an album that demonstrates a very organic evolution. THE END – written by guitarist Johnny Took – shows Kim Moyes’ influence with its dark production and synths, while the psychedelic-tinged EMILY WHYTE – written by guitarist Matt Mason – erupts into an epic, blissed-out album closer. More broadly, the most transformative element of the band’s sound comes in the shape of Tommy O’Dell’s vocals; the character and attitude of his voice now heightened with a fresh, soulful element.
“Last time around, we were still working out what kind of band we wanted to be, and we still are,” says Johnny Took. “We still have that jangly rock n roll aspect but it’s matured in other ways. It feels like a natural progression for the band.”
