Area 52 launched their brand new single, What Do You Want?, earlier this month on Huw Stephen’s Radio 1 show. The track was premiered alongside an interview with front-woman Rose discussing the thriving music scene in their hometown of Reading. What Do You Want? is now up for streaming on Soundcloud and Spotify.

The band has also been confirmed for a BBC Maida Vale session, which goes live on 22nd February. Area 52 recorded 4 tracks at the acclaimed recording studio, including single What Do You Want?, as well as Carry On and brand new tracks Slowing Down and Broken. Later in the month, Area 52, will release the What Do You Want? video, directed by Sitcom Soldiers.

Area 52 gained early support from BBC Introducing Berkshire, and their track Carry On, which features as a double A side to What Do You Want?, was subsequently added to the BBC Introducing Playlist last Summer. Following the playlist addition, they were invited to play the Introducing stage at Reading and Leeds Festivals, which the band deemed their absolute highlight of the year.

Area 52 formed at the Reading Rock Academy in August 2014 – a foundation set up to educate and encourage young people to play, write and perform original music. The five-piece set about writing a song within a week and a spark was lit. The five became inseparable long after the Summer at the Rock Academy was over, and went on to garner support and a loyal fanbase from playing local shows and festivals. Area 52 showcased their sound at Readipop, the rehearsal space where many of the local bands practiced, and became a part of a very special movement in their hometown.

Area 52 are Rose Yagmur (Vocals, Bass), George Parnell (Guitar), Cat Beazley (Guitar), Katie King (Guitar) and Max Sealy (Drums)
