Arcane Roots bring ‘Melancholia Hymns’ to Brighton

Arcane Roots- Brighton Haunt – 14/10/17

It’s felt like a long wait for the return of Arcane Roots but after releasing their brand new record, ‘Melancholia Hymns’, they’ve set out on the road for a UK wide tour to celebrate hitting dates throughout October. Treating audiences to their brand new sound along with bangers from previous albums.

A quick note about support band, Gold Key: there’s some work to be done for this up and coming band. A great look with a great sound, on record and in the studio. However, live, they’re just not cutting it. There’s a fair bit left to be desired from the rhythm section but a cracking set of tunes behind them means that it’s nothing that can’t be solved over time.

Arcane Roots (9) took to the stage in the only way they know how to a beautiful backing tack comprised of delicious layers of synth and effects. Credit to the lighting team for setting the mood with pulsating lights to build tension before the band came on.

You could never come away from an Arcane Roots gig being able to say they didn’t put their hearts and souls into a show. Relentless energetic post rock goodness fills their entire set with songs of new and old. One song that was particularly enjoyable to see live was ‘Curtains’. A song filled with mood, and climactic soundscapes that monstrously battle to fruition. A song that creates vivid imagery when listened to on record but partnered with the visual aspect of the live performance it becomes an unfathomable triumph of music.

If you have the opportunity to see Arcane Roots on their current tour, be sure to do so. You won’t regret it.
