Kickstarting an exciting new chapter today, Newcastle duo GALLERY CIRCUS unshackle their new single SUGAR. Blues-ridden, electrifying, and infectious, the track is taken from forthcoming EP CHI-TOWN DOGS due 4th August on Killing Moon.
LISTEN TO ‘SUGAR’ here:
“We wrote ‘Sugar’ when touring across the UK last year. Although it may not be too obvious from the lyrics, the song reveals some of the darker moments of being on the road. Band members being in such close proximity for extended periods of time can create strain on relationships. Although Graeme and I fight quite often (almost daily, sometimes with fists) – grudges are never held – it must be a twin thing. The track documents some of the bizarre rock ‘n’ roll scandals we encountered.”
– Dan Ross, vocals, guitars & keys
SUGAR follows previous single The Flood, which has seen support from BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens.
Comprising of identical twin brothers Daniel & Graeme Ross, GALLERY CIRCUS boast an undeniable musical chemistry on stage. With the quirks and songwriting finesse of The Dresden Dolls, combined with the raw, bluesy power of Royal Blood, they capture the mood of this generation and augment it on stage. Over the past year the duo have quickly built up a reputation as being one of the UK’s most formidable new live bands and have supported acts such as Hanni El Khatib, King Charles, Little Comets, Kill it Kid and Arcane Roots.
Adapting their name from the infamous Gallery Cabaret in Logan Square, Chicago, GALLERY CIRCUS began in this open mic party spot after the brothers decided to move to the USA and befriend the DIY punk
scene. Here they played shows across makeshift venues in the city including punk gang clubhouses, skate parks and rooftop parties.
Produced by Dan Austin (Pixies, Doves, Mallory Knox), forthcoming EP CHI-TOWN DOGS pays homage to the brothers time in the USA.
“We named our EP after the famous Chicago style hot dog. Tasty! We wanted our first official record to reference how and where we started. Having played together in bands all our lives, we had never actually performed as just the two of us until we moved to the iconic US city a few years back.
The record was recorded in an old vicarage near Manchester, working day and night for a week and Dan did a great job of capturing the raw and abrasive energy of our shows. We’re a live band at heart and have the most fun rocking out on a stage. It was our first time in the studio where everything gelled effortlessly and the spontaneity of our playing was truly captured”
