Sydney trio DMA’S have announced details of their new single, LAY DOWN, released 13 November 2015 via Infectious Music, preceded by a full UK tour throughout October. Having already won over a legion of fans over the summer with shows at the Great Escape, Latitude, Reading and Leeds Festivals, as well as their own headlining dates [including a sold out 100 Club show in London] the band will now take things up a notch with their biggest UK tour to date.
With an ambition shown in few other artists, DMA’S decided to launch in the UK with a mini self-titled 6-track album in May this year which immediately blew people away with classic sounding songs. BBC Radio 1 and the NME, amongst others, took notice and they found themselves facing fans singing along to all the tracks.
LAY DOWN is the first track taken from their forthcoming full length debut due next year. Recorded in Australia and mixed by the legendary Mark Stent, it’s an instant riff-laden hooky thumper sure to be danced to in clubs and fields for years to come. LAY DOWN received its radio premier on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show on Monday 28 September.
DMA’S are rapidly establishing themselves as one of 2015’s more unlikely musical saviours. Until late last year, the trio had spent most of the three years since forming the band locked in a small room writing and rehearsing, and planning their assault on the world beyond the Sydney suburbs. The first glimpse the wider world got of DMA’S was at last October’s CMJ Festival in New York. Traditionally an industry showcase for new bands trying to win early support from label scouts, journalists and bloggers, DMA’S shows saw a word of mouth frenzy resulting in queues around the block, the shows replete with legions of fans who were lucky enough to get in, somehow singing back the words to songs that at that point hadn’t even reached the internet.
Their self-titled debut mini-album, out now on Infectious Music, tells you everything you need to know about DMA’S. Positively overflowing with huge choruses and hooks galore, it’s a melting pot of ideas that sets out the bands stall perfectly: a touch of US alt rock-inspired skuzziness here [YOUR LOW]; a bit of The La’s stripped-down dexterity there [DELETE]; and lashings of anthemic, memorable moments make it a compelling, engrossing listen.
But with these boys, there’s much more than meets the eye; from lush middle eights that recall cult Aussie heroes Sleepy Jackson to 808-inspired grooves; and the glorious wall-of-sound guitar effect pedals that push much of the record to the next level.
