Up-and-coming Boston alt-rock trio PVRIS, have released their latest video from their debut album, White Noise (Rise). The video, which can be viewed above, was directed by Raul Gonzo (Thom Yorke) and follows previous PVRIS videos “My House” (which has more than 2.6 million YouTube views), “St. Patrick” (over 1.9 million views) and the recently released “Poltergeist”-inspired “White Noise” video (which premiered on Nylon and is just south of a million views). All three songs appear on the White Noise album, which re-entered The Billboard 200 this week.
PVRIS lead singer Lynn Gunn says “‘Holy’ is one of the most personal and honest songs on the record… Lyrically, it’s pretty self-explanatory once you listen.”
The distorted visuals mask a few, well, exposed moments in the video. “It’s pretty hard to see, but there’s one shot in the video of me shirtless that overlaps with the one of me clothed throughout,” Gunn says. “I was a little nervous while shooting this shot, so Brian [McDonald — PVRIS bassist] took his shirt off and stood next to the camera to make me feel comfortable [laughs].”
The trio (vocalist Lynn Gunn, guitarist Alex Babinski and bassist Brian MacDonald) have been performing all four tracks as part of their show-stealing set on this year’s Warped Tour, where they’re one of the famed road show’s biggest draws. In their review of a recent west coast stop, LA Weekly described PVRIS as “Skrillex meets Paramore” and called Gunn a star, a sentiment echoed by the Huffington Post, who described her as “a force that cannot be denied.”
The band just did an amazing cover of Tove Lo’s “Talking Body” for BBC Radio 1, played a special show at The Studio at Webster Hall in NY, which sold out 60 seconds after tickets went on sale, and released a stunning cover of Sia’s “Chandelier.” The readers of Alternative Pressnominated Lynn for “Best Vocalist” for the upcoming Alternative Press Music Awards and also nominated the group for “Breakthrough Band,” “Best Music Video” & “Song of the Year.”
After the Warped Tour, the band will join the likes of Mumford & Sons, Metallica, Kendrick Lamar, Deadmau5, Run The Jewels, Mastodon, Charli XCX and more on this year’s Reading and Leeds festivals, then head to Australia for a string of dates with Circa Survive.
